On one of Marilyn and Al’s trips they saw an old, fallen down barn. In other parts of the country, barns are considered treasures and are maintained. In fact, some very expensive homes have been made from some of the Amish barns in the east. That doesn’t seem to be the case around here.

They stopped on the highway so Al could get some pictures.

Al said I could use the pictures for my Lucky Dog Blog.
Why, I am not sure, but some strange things turn Al on!

Here in SW MO barns (and other old buildings) are not appreciated. When something is no longer immediately useful, it is allowed to collapse. Marilyn is reading an excellent book called "The Seeds of Albion". She was struck by reading about the Scots-Irish settlers, many of whom came from the borderland between Scotland and England. After hundreds of years of nearly constant warfare & destruction, they became accustomed to rather "temporary" shoddy housing - rude cabins or shelters. The author theorizes that is carred out today by the popularity of mobile homes in the south. Something to think about.

I'm actually fascinated with barns that have fallen down and have been abandoned. I always wonder about the history of them. What was kept in them? What was the owner/family like? I still have quite the imagination:)

The ravages of time show no mercy, no matter how well built less than one lifetime previous.
